AlphaGCL Liner TR

Needle-punched geosynthetic clay liner

A factory-made hydraulic barrier: high-swelling Anatolian sodium bentonite, needle-punched between two geotextiles. We make it on our own line in Çankırı for landfills, reservoirs, mining ponds and tunnels.

Bentonite content
≥ 4,000 g/m²
Hydraulic conductivity (k)
≤ 5 × 10⁻¹¹ m/s
Standard roll width
2.40 m
Tensile strength (MD / CD)
≥ 4.5 / 3.5 kN/m
Puncture resistance
≥ 1.0 kN

Three layers, punched into one.

Two geotextiles hold a continuous layer of sodium bentonite. Fibres needled through all three keep the clay where it was laid.

  1. 1

    Upper geotextile

    Needle-punched polypropylene non-woven

Grips the cover soil or a geomembrane above it, so the liner holds on slopes.

  2. 2

    Sodium bentonite core

    ≥ 4,000 g/m², montmorillonite above 75%

From our own Çankırı reserves. Hydrated, it swells to 15–20 times its dry volume and forms a low-permeability seal that closes around small punctures and settlement cracks under load.

  3. 3

    Lower geotextile

    Woven or non-woven carrier

Takes the tensile load and protects the core from an uneven subgrade, stones and roots.

  4. 4

    Needle-punched fibres

    Through all three layers

Lock the bentonite in place, so it doesn't migrate sideways and the liner keeps its internal shear strength under load.

Made on our own line in Çankırı.

The same operation that mines and processes our Alpha TR bentonite makes the liner, so the clay goes from our pits into the roll without a middleman.

Geotextile feed rollers in the liner production hall
Geotextile feed line in the production hall
Metered bentonite
Dosed by machine across the full 2.40 m width, to at least 4,000 g/m².
Needle-punching
Industrial looms punch the upper and lower geotextiles together through the clay in one continuous pass.
In-line checks
Thickness, moisture (≤ 12%) and roll weight are checked on the line, under ISO 14001 and GMP procedures.
Wrapped for site
Each roll is shrink-wrapped in UV-stabilised plastic, with lifting loops for a crane or spreader bar.

Specification

Typical values for the standard grade. Other roll lengths and geotextile combinations are made to order.

The full technical data sheet and test certificates are sent on request. Roll weight depends on length and geotextile grade and is stated on each quotation.

Where it goes.

Anywhere a project needs a thin, flexible clay barrier that goes down faster than compacted clay.

  • Landfills and capping

Base liners and final caps that keep leachate out of the groundwater.

  • Reservoirs and canals

Drinking-water reservoirs, storm ponds and irrigation canals where seepage costs water.

  • Mining and tailings

Heap leach pads, process-water ponds and tailings impoundments.

  • Tunnels and basements

Waterproofing for cut-and-cover tunnels, stations, diaphragm walls and underground car parks.

  • Chemical and fuel storage

Secondary containment under tank farms and bunds.

  • Farm ponds and lagoons

Irrigation ponds and livestock effluent lagoons.

Installing it in four steps.

A summary. Follow the project engineer's specification; detailed installation notes come with the order.

  1. Step 1

    Prepare the subgrade

Smooth and compacted, free of stones, sharp debris and standing water.

  2. Step 2

    Unroll

Non-woven side up, from an excavator with a spreader bar. Don't drag the liner over rough ground.

  3. Step 3

    Overlap and seal

Overlap neighbouring rolls by 10–30 cm and run a continuous bead of AlphaSeal TR bentonite powder along the seam, about 0.4 kg per metre.

  4. Step 4

    Cover it

Place at least 30 cm of compacted soil, gravel or a geomembrane on top. Keep heavy machinery off uncovered liner.
